Sri Lanka's leading biodiversity exploration and research institution and natural- history publisher
The Wildlife Heritage Trust of Sri Lanka is a non-profit organization dedicated to the scientific exploration and documentation of Sri Lanka's biodiversity. Established in 1989 by Rohan Pethiyagoda, the Trust is an organization of modest means, engaged in a limited number of research projects, both independently and in association with Sri Lankan and overseas collaborators. The Trust operates almost entirely on revenue from its book and magazine-publishing activity.
The publishing arm of the Trust, WHT Publications (Pvt) Limited, is Sri Lanka's leading natural history publishing house. In addition to books on various aspects of Sri Lanka's biodiversity, the company also publishes the a peer-reviewed periodical, the Journal of South Asian Natural History, and a popular magazine, Sri Lanka Nature (presently circulated only in Sri Lanka).
The Trust's work is purely academic-it has no membership and is not an 'NGO'. It does not espouse any matter of public interest, is financially independent and does not solicit donations. However, it welcomes collaboration in relevant fields of activity, and publications exchange.
