Dear Khun Manlai, are you sure number 2 is Malayemys subtrijuga? That species was recently reviewed, and there are in fact two species in Thailand, differenciated mainly by the color of the head: M. macrocephala with wide yellow stripe under the eye (like on your picture) and M. subtrijuga (thin stripe). If you have front pictures of the head, there is another difference easy to see, about the number of vertical yellow stripes under the nostrils. 2 or 4 stripes = M. macrocephala, more than 4 = M. subtrijuga.

The paper on Malayemys is the following: Thimothy Brophy, 2004. Geographic variation and systematics in the south-east Asian turtles of the genus Malayemys (Testudines: Bataguridae). Hamadryad, 29(1): 63-79. I have a copy here, but I am now in Africa, and can not send it by post. But you can ask a copy from the author - his e-mail is tbrophy@liberty.edu. The Turtle Lab of Chulalongkorn University receives the journal Hamadryad, so you can also ask at Chula - easiest.

Malayemys macrocephala lives in the Chao Phraya and Mae Klong river basins, in the coastal areas of southeastern Thailand, and in the Thai-Malay peninsula. M. subtrijuga lives in the Mekong river basin, in eastern Thailand, Cambodia and southern Vietnam. In Thailand, the most widespread is thus M. macrocephala. The differences in coloration between both species is striking, I do not understand why nobody saw that before!!

As you say, there are indeed still a number of problems to establish a "final" list for Thai reptiles (among those already recorded, I do not mention the new species to discover).

The status of some snakes was just solved, like for Boiga siamensis. The status of Lycodon suratensis and Dryocalamus davisonii tungsongensis, both described by Ajarn Wirot, will be solved very soon. The presence of some species still has to be confirmed.

For Thai lizards, there is a giant mess, especially for skinks, and we are not close to have their exact number!

For turtles, I think the current list is nearly exact, with the addition of Malayemys macrocephala. Chitra vandijki is known from the Thai-Myanmar border, and might be added soon to Thailand. I will check how many species of the Cyclemys dentata-Complex are recorded from Thailand.

For frogs, the list in Ajarn Tanya's field guide is very good, only very few species are missing. The status of some species, like Kaloula aureata, must be solved.
