Professionalism in Biodiversity & Conservation
17-18 July 07
Place: N101
Faculty of Science, Mahidol University
------->During the last decade, research on biodiversity and conservation has increased in importance not only in science and technology but also in the socio-economy and environment. More and more students are opting to pursue research in these fields. As a result, the new generation of scientists in these fields is much larger than the older generation. To become a professional within these fields requires more skills than just doing good traditional research and publishing. At the same time, however, it is unclear what skills will be needed and what types of professionals will be emerging in these fields in the future. In this meeting, both faculty members and outsiders will give talks to explore the current and future trends in these fields.
-------> Graduate students will present more than their progress reports and will be encouraged to address the important issues as they see them and the skills needed to cope with these issues. This first conference will aim at the Mahidol group of biodiversity and conservation researchers and students, and some students from other Thai universities and eventually international participants.
Organizing committee: Sompoad Srikosamatara, Visut Baimai, Warren Y. Brockelman, Pilai Poonswad, Philip D. Round, John Milne
