พบกล้วยไม้สิงโต สกุล Bulbophyllum sect. Epicrianthes ชนิดใหม่ของโลก จากเกาะนิวบริเตน ทางตะวันออกของปาปัวนิวกินี

มีลักษณะพิเศษที่ดอกบานในเวลากลางคืน (ประมาณ 22.00 - 10.00 น.)
ซึ่งผู้ค้นพบรายงานว่า พืชกลุ่มกล้วยไม้ชนิดแรกมีรายงานว่าดอกบานในเวลากลางคืน

....กล้วยไม้สปีชีส์นี้ได้ชื่อทางวิทยาศาสตร์ว่า Bulbophyllum nocturnum ตามลักษณะการบานของดอกในตอนกลางคืน
เมื่อบานออก ดอกจะมีเส้นคล้ายระยางค์ยื่นออกมาดูเหมือนเส้นใยของราหรือขาแมงมุม ดอกบานอยู่ได้หนึ่งคืนก็จะเหี่ยวแห้งไป....

Abstract
Bulbophyllum nocturnum, a species of section Epicrianthes from New Britain, is described and illustrated. It is the first known example of an orchid species in which the flowers open after dark and close in the morning. The poorly understood pollination biology of section Epicrianthes, a clade with highly unusual flowers, is discussed. Attention is drawn to the close resemblance between the petal appendages of some species and the fruiting bodies of certain Myxogastria.
